Tianna Ayulo dominated the Bobcats all afternoon and finished with a double-double, scoring a game-high 28 points on 11-of-18 shooting from the field, including 5-for-7 from the free-throw line to go along with 12 rebounds. The victory keeps FMU in first place in the Sun Conference women's basketball standings.
Florida Memorial trailed by four points after the first quarter of play. However, in the third quarter the Lions outscored the Bobcats 29-21 to take a three point into the fourth quarter. That's when FMU tightened the clamps on St. Thomas, outscoring them 24-9 on their own floor in the final stanza.
Aliyah-Deen Ahmad also had a solid game with 24 points, seven boards, four assists and three steals in 37 minutes. Both
Nyah Johnson and
Chantel Barnett finished with 17 points apiece.
FMU's defense proved to be the difference in the game as they forced 10 more turnovers (24) than they committed themselves (14). The Lions feasted off Bobcat miscues and scored 31 crucial points off of those 24 turnovers.
The Lions return to action on Thursday, January 26 as they return home to host Keiser. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. at the FMU Wellness Center.
