Ahmad's 30 points and 11 rebounds lift first-place Lions past Ave Maria 91-68

Lions take sole possession of first place in the Sun Conference

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | Florida Memorial moved into first place in the Sun Conference after dismantling the top ranked team Ave Maria 91-68 at the FMU Wellness Center. FMU guard Aliyah-Deen Ahmad produced a season-high 30 points and grabbed 11 boards in the lopsided victory.

The Lions (11-5, 6-1) controlled the game from early on, leading 22-14 after the first quarter. For the game, Florida Memorial was flawless from the charity stripe, connecting on all 17 of their free throw attempts.

FMU guard Tiana Ayulo had a solid game with 22 points, nine rebounds and four steals while teammate Nyah Johnson added 13 points and dished out six assists in the win.

As a team, Florida Memorial scored 54 points in the paint and capitalized on the Gyrene's mishaps, scoring 22 points off of 21 Ave Maria turnovers.

The Lions return to action on Thursday, January 12 as they face Webber. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. in Babson Park, Fla.
