Lions on 2-game skid after dropping contests to Southeastern & Ave Maria

FMU is now 1-6 in Sun conference play.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | After a 3-game win streak in non-conference play, Florida Memorial dropped two consecutive conference games in three nights, first falling to Southeastern by the score of 90-85, then dropping a home contest to Ave Maria 102-84.

In the game against Southeastern, FMU trailed by just three points at the break before making a late run to tie the game 77-77 on a three-pointer from Tavin Pierre-Philippe. However, the Fire ended the game on a 13-8 run to close the door on any comeback attempt.

Florida Memorial was led by Pierre-Philippe, who finished with a team-high 25 points on 11-for-17 shooting from the field, including a perfect 3-of-3 from downtown. He also filled the stat sheet with eight boards, four assists and three steals in 36 minutes of action while teammate Cam'Ron Wilson added 14 points, six rebounds, one block and one steal.

Fellow Lion Tariq Humes chipped in with 13 points and shot 3-of-6 from three-point range.

In Saturday's contest against Ave Maria, the Lions trailed by three points late in the second half (74-77) after a lay-up from Miles-Jordan Smartt, but the Gyrenes went on a furious 25-7 run to close the game, handing the Lions their second-straight loss.

FMU guard Jordan Jackson generated a team-high 14 points and connected on 5-of-6 from the free throw line while teammates Pierre-Philippe and Wilson both added 13 points apiece for the Lions, who drop to 1-6 in Sun Conference competition.

FMU post player Jacobi Gordon was solid from the charity stripe, hitting 8-of-11 free throws as he finished with 12 points in the loss.

Florida Memorial returns to action on Thursday, January 12 as they face Webber in Sun Conference play. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. in Babson Park, Fla.
