MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | Despite leading 1-0 for most of the first half, FMU allowed five second-half goals in their 6-1 loss to No. 13 Southeastern.
FMU took an early lead in the second minute of the contest as Brettney Rivera drilled a low-driven shot into the back of the net on a pass from Ana de Freitas. Both teams continued to find chances as the first half winded down, but in the 37th minute of the contest, the Fire found the equalizer as both teams were tied 1-1 at the break.
However, Southeastern exploded to the tune of five second-half goals, including a hat-trick from striker Katie Carnes.
De Freitas finished with a team-high three shots while teammate Maria Goncalves Guimares produced a match-high nine saves in the loss.
The Lions return to action Saturday, Oct. 28 as they face Warner in the regular season finale. Kickoff is slated for 11 a.m. in Lakes Wales, Fla.
