THOMASVILLE, Ga. | Florida Memorial enjoyed a 24-7 lead at halftime and survived a late push as they won their record fifth SUN Conference game by the score of 37-24 over Thomas at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The Lions scored in the first minute of the game, capping a four-play 60-yard drive ending in the first of three touchdown passes for FMU quarterback
Cedquan Smith as the team lead 24-7 at halftime. Smith finished the game completing 26-of-33 passes for 282 yards.
FMU running back
Walter Wilbon sliced the Nighthawks defense and generated 108 rushing yards and a touchdown while teammate
Corey Stanley hauled in eight receptions for 72 yards. Fellow Lion
David Studstill finished with four receptions, 43 yards and a touchdown while bruiser running back
Michael Cabellero produced a rushing and receiving touchdown in the huge road victory.
On the defensive end, defensive lineman
Philman Roundtree and linebacker
Joshua Mimms both finished with six tackles apiece while
Charles Philias added five tackles for the Lions, who improve to 5-1 in conference play and have a shot at a share of the conference title with an upset victory in their final game of the regular season.
The Lions return to action on Saturday, Nov. 11 as they host Keiser for senior day. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. at Betty T. Ferguson Stadium.
