MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | Florida Memorial won their 16th straight conference game in a 82-71 victory over Ave Maria in the SUN Women's Basketball Tournament Semifinal Round at the FMU Wellness Center. With the win, FMU will face Southeastern in the SUN Women's Basketball Tournament Championship Game on Saturday, February 25 at 5 p.m.
The Lions trailed 17-15 after one quarter of play before exploding to a 34-point second quarter, outscoring the Gyrenes by 20 points.
First-team all-conference selection
Aliyah-Deen Ahmad led all scorers with 25 points on 11-of-21 shooting from the field to go along with five rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal while SUN Women's Basketball Player of the Year
Tianna Ayulo produced a double-double, scoring 23 points and grabbing 15 boards in the victory.
Fellow first-team all-conference selection
Chantel Barnett added 15 points while post-player
Jasmine Worthy finished with five points and 14 rebounds.
Quameerah Peterson-Gray chipped in with 10 points, four boards and two assists off the bench.
Prior to tip-off, head coach
Gregory Stanback was named 2022-23 SUN Women's Basketball Coach of the Year and Ayulo was named Player of the Year.
