PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. | Florida Memoirlal dropped the weekend series against Ave Maria but managed to win the final game by the score of 4-3.

In the series opener, Ave Maria jumped on top by scoring a run in the third, fourth, then adding an addition two runs in the top of the fifth inning before the Lions exploded for three runs of their own in the bottom stanza when Aashana Franics produced a sacrifice bunt RBI that scored
Ciara Justice. Taylor then generated an RBI-single to center field that brought home
Gabriela Pinto. Power hitter
McKenna Dawes followed up with an RBI-single that scored
Ciera Taylor. However, the Gyrenes answered back with two insurance runs in the top of the sixth to close the door on any comeback attempt.
Brenda Morales (1-5) got the nod on the mound for the Lions and pitched a total of four innings, allowing five hits and four runs before being replaced by
Aashana Francis,who allowed four hits and two runs for FMU.

The Lions scored their lone run in the sixth inning when Breana Reyes produced an RBI-double to left center that allowed
Heidy Olivo to score. The Gyrenes eventually clinched the series with a win over the Lions in game two.
Morales (1-6) was once again on the mound for FMU as she pitched a total of four innings, allowing six hits, five runs, and generated three strikeouts before being replaced by Pinto, who allowed four hits, three runs, and produced two strikeouts in the loss.

FMU 4 - Ave Maria 3
The Lions managed to squeeze out the final game over the Gyrenes in exciting fashion. FMU jumped out on top with a one-run lead when Pinto generated an RBI-single to left center that scored
Trinity Hobley for the first run of the game. Ave Maria answered back in the top of the third to tie the game, then FMU responded with two runs in the bottom stanza when Justice produced a two-RBI single that brought home
Bryanna Curry and Reyes to take a 3-1 lead.
Ave Maria added another run in the top of the fifth to cut the deficit to 3-2, but the Lions responded with an insurance run in the bottom stanza when Olivo scored on an Ave Maria error.
The Gyrenes scored another run in the top of the sixth, but the Lions defense sealed the deal with solid play in the latter portion of the contest.
Francis (1-0) was credited with the victory, allowing five hits, three runs, and generating one strikeout in six innings of action.
FMU returns to action on Tuesday, March 28 as they travel to West Palm Beach to face Keiser in conference action.
