WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. | Florida Memorial led 5-0 before falling 6-5 to the top ranked team in the NAIA, Southeastern, at the Ballpark of the Palm Beaches.
The Lions held a 4-0 in the third inning before scoring another run in the fifth to lead 5-0 in commanding fashion.
However, the Fire responded with three runs in the bottom of the seventh to cut the deficit to just two runs.
With a two-run lead in the bottom of the ninth, FMU simply could not finish the job and allowed three runs as they fell in dramatic fashion as a result of a walk-off sacrifice fly-RBI.
Ricardo Alvarez de Lugo got the nod on the mound and struck out one batter while allowing just five hits and one earned run in six innings before being replaced by
Jamal Johnson, who gave up three hits and two earned runs in less than one inning.
Kyle Morrison came in relief and was credited with the loss, allowing three hits and three earned runs while producing one strikeout in two innings pitched.
FMU will now face Keiser on Friday, May 5 at 11 a.m. in an elimination game.
