BABSON PARK, Fla. | FMU volleyball looked to continue to build on its best start to a season since 2020, but Webber played spoiler in the conference opener, with a 3-0 (21-25, 22-25, 21-25) sweep over Florida Memorial.
Set one was a back-and-forth affair between both teams, but Webber scored five of the last six points to grab a close 25-21 victory.
Set two proved to be another close battle, but the Warriors outscored the Lions 8-2 in the dying stages to grab the win.
Down 18-24 in the final set, the Lions scored three in a row to shave the deficit to just three points, but Webber sealed the deal with the final point to grab the win.
FMU was led by SUN Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Caroline Souza, who finished with a team-high 12 kills while teammate
Agustina Busque produced a game-high 27 assists in the loss.
The contest drops the Lions to 2-1 on the year, and 0-1 in conference play.
The Lions return to action Wednesday, September 20, where they'll host St. Thomas for the first edition of the Battle of Miami Gardens. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. at the FMU Wellness Center.
