MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | After leading 1-0 following the first set, Florida Memorial (3-3, 1-3 SUN) dropped the final three sets to fall to the Seahawks 3-1 (23-25, 27-25, 25-23, 25-15) at the FMU Wellness Center. It was only the sixth contest for FMU's volleyball team while their opponents played in their 25th match of the season.
Set one was a back-and-forth affair between the two conference rivals, but the Lions came out on top to take the narrow 25-23 win thanks to reigning SUN Volleyball Player of the Year
Caroline Souza, who finished with a team-high 19 kills.
In set two, the Lions found themselves at set point, inches away from going up 2-0 over the Seahawks (19-6, 3-1 SUN). However, Keiser somehow found a way to overcome adversity on the road, storming back to take sets two (27-25) and three (25-23) in dramatic fashion as they slowly deflated the energy in the FMU Wellness Center.
The final set sealed the deal for the Lions as the Seahawks dominated the final set and won 25-15.
FMU setter
Agustina Busque finished with a team-high 36 assists in the loss.
The loss drops FMU to 3-3 on the year and 1-3 in conference play. The Lions return to action on Saturday, September 30 where they'll host Coastal Georgia. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. at FMU Wellness Center.
