FMU Lions trample Warner 43-15 as Buggs earns 1st career victory as QB

Lions snap a two-game skid as they prepare for Southeastern.

LAKE WALES, Fla. | The Florida Memorial University football team got back in the win column with a huge 43-15 conference road victory over Warner. The win lifts FMU to 2-2-1 on the year as the team earns its first SUN victory of the season, snapping a two-game skid.

"It gets us back on the right track," said FMU Lions head coach Bobby Rome. "Every game we go in, we expect to win. The last two games, we didn't play our best football, so to come out there and to be able to put up some points and get some stops on defense, and make some big plays on special teams and play FMU football, that's a big thing for us and we are proud and happy about that."

FMU kicker Oliver Robbins knocked down the games' first score, connecting on a 49-yard field goal for the Lions.

Sophomore quarterback David Buggs completed 11-of-21 passes for 175 yards and three total touchdowns, including a 22-yard scamper for the first touchdown of the game. FMU all-time leading rusher George Young made his presence felt as he finished with 152 rushing yards and two touchdowns, including a 34-yard score in the second half.

FMU wide receiver and Michigan native Jalen Holly finished with over 100 yards receiving and a touchdown reception while teammate Henry Calaxtie generated two catches and a touchdown.

On the defensive end, Jakai Linwood finished with a team-high six total tackles while fellow Lion Kareem Roberts added five tackles and 1.5 sacks. However, Antwan Davis disrupted the Royals offensive line as he produced a career-high three sacks and an interception which he returned 40 yards before being brought down.

The offensive line, led by Justyn Mack and company, was marvelous all night, leading FMU to over 300 yards rushing and nearly 500 yards of total offense.

The Lions return to action on Saturday, October 12 as they host Southeastern in SUN competition. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. at Betty T. Ferguson Stadium.
