FMU softball splits doubleheader with New College of Florida

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | Florida Memorial split a doubleheader against New College of Florida, taking game one 11-5 before falling 3-2 in game two at Walt Frazier Park at Carol City.

The Lions fell behind 1-0 in the first inning before responding with runs in the second and third inning when Bryanna Curry generated an RBI-single that brought home freshman Leneya Silva, tying the game 1-1. FMU took a one-run lead in the next inning when freshman Kylie Enrique produced an RBI-single to left center, scoring Heidy Olivo.

The Banyans responded with two runs in the top of the fourth inning, regaining a one-run lead.

FMU had a golden chance to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh inning with runners on the corners, but after Olivo took an automatic base on balls to get to first, left fielder Kayla Jade Morales struck out to end the contest and the doubleheader.

Breana Morales (2-2) was credited with the loss as she pitched a complete game, striking out four batters while giving up three earned runs.

The Lions return to action on Thursday, April 11 as they host Keiser in conference play. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. at Walt Frazier Park at Carol City.
