Florida Memorial falls to Edward Waters 3-2 in Black College World Series elimination round

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | In a rematch of game one of the Black College World Series, Florida Memorial fell to Edward Waters 3-2 in the elimination round. The Lions traded runs with the Tigers in the middle of the contest, but couldn't keep up with EWU in the final innings, resulting in their elimination from the Black College World Series.

A pair of scoreless innings was followed by a sacrifice RBI from catcher Alejandro Fernandez that scored third baseman Reinaldo Prieto in the top of the third inning. EWU matched FMU in the bottom of the inning to tie the game 1-1. The Lions retook the lead in the top of the fourth after senior Luis Ruiz's RBI scored first baseman Keith Harden. The Tigers tied the game once more in the bottom of the fourth before taking the lead with a run in the top of the fifth. FMU's offense failed to record another run, resulting in the 3-2 defeat.

FMU pitcher Carlos Solano (2-6) was credited with the loss. In six innings, he allowed eight hits and three earned runs while striking out four Tigers. Junior Jamal Johnson finished on the mound for FMU and, in two innings, allowed one hit and struck out one Tiger.

The Lions finish the 2024 season with a 21-26 overall record.
