FMU earns first conference tourney win in program history 12-4 over Keiser, fall to CCG

The Lions are still alive thanks to the SUN's double-elimination tournament format.

CLEARWATER, Fla. | In their debut SUN Softball Tournament appearance, No.5 seed Florida Memorial dominated No. 4 seed Keiser 12-4, ending the opening round in five innings. They faced No. 1 seed Coastal Georgia in the following round, giving up a 3-1 lead as they fell 8-4 to the Mariners in round two. However, the Lions are still alive due to the SUN's double-elimination tournament format.

Game 1
FMU 12 - KU 4

The Lions opened the tournament with a bang, scoring six runs in the opening two innings to take a commanding lead. While Keiser generated a home run an inning later, the Lions doubled their lead in the following two innings. Despite the Seahawks adding three runs in the bottom of the fifth, the lead was too large to overcome as the mercy rule handed FMU a dominating 12-4 win over Keiser in round one.

FMU's Emma Silva (9-4) earned the victory, allowing nine hits while giving up four earned runs in the lopsided victory.

Game 2
FMU 4 - CCG 8

FMU took a lead with a run in the top of the first inning before the Mariners tied the game with a run in the bottom of the second. The Lions added a pair of runs in the top of the third to take a 3-1 lead before Coastal Georgia answered with a backbreaking six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Sophomore Gabriela Pinto (6-12) was credited with the loss and in 3.2 innings allowed seven hits and five earned runs. Silva came in relief and in 2.1 innings allowed three hits and one earned run.

The split moves FMU to 27-22 on the season.

The Lions return to action Friday, May 2, where they'll face off against Warner in the elimination round of the SUN Softball Tournament. First pitch is scheduled for 9 a.m. in Clearwater, Fla.
