MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | It was a near-perfect day for Florida Memorial University, as not only did they celebrate Senior Day, but clinched a spot in the SUN Conference Tournament with a 2-0 victory over New College of Florida.
Ariana Artavia,
Laura Douet,
Jada Samuels,
Tiare Gomez Salo,
Mia Sustaita, and
Julia Duarte were all honored for their final home game as FMU Lions.
The seniors kicked off their special day with a bang, as in just the second minute, Samuels found the back of the net for her fourth goal of the season. In the second half, freshman
Alba Carcamo-Alvarado scored the team's second goal in the 58th minute, which was enough, as the Lions' defense played excellently all day long, denying the Banyans from the back of the net.
Goalkeeper
Isabella Rueda, finished all 90 minutes with a clean sheet, along with five saves.
The win advances FMU to 5-3-4 on the year, and 3-2-1 in conference play.
The Lions return to action Saturday, October 25, when they'll travel to Hardeeville, S.C. to take on No. 18 SCAD-Savannah. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
