Game one proved to be a defensive struggle as both pitchers took full command, including FMU starting pitcher Leny Hoyos, who made her debut. She struck out three batters and allowed six hits and one earned run across 4.1 innings before being replaced by Faith Fournier, who allowed no earned runs on four hits in 2.2 innings of work.

However, Hoyos was credited with the loss as FMU managed just two hits, coming from pinch hitter Keyhara Alleyne and left fielder Kayla Jade Morales.

Senior shortstop Heidy Olivo wasted no time as she hit a 2-run home run in the first inning, scoring right fielder Aashana Francis. However, the Tigers poured in four runs in the top of the third inning to gain a 4-2 advantage.

In the bottom stanza, senior center fielder Ciara Justice answered back with another 2-run shot for FMU, once again scoring Francis. With the ball game tied in the bottom of the fourth, the Lions took a late lead when Morales generated a sacrifice fly-RBI that brought home Natalia Alvarez. Moments later, Francis produced the game-winning RBI with a single that scored Mariana Gongora.

The Tigers scored a late home run, but it wasn't enough as FMU held on for the one-run win.

FMU starting pitcher Emma Silva got the nod, striking out one batter while allowing six hits and four earned runs across three innings before being replaced by Alyssa Estrada, who allowed three hits, one earned run and was credited with the victory for her four innings on the mound.

The Lions return to the diamond on Friday, March 7 as they open conference play against Keiser. First pitch is set for 12 noon in West Palm Beach, Fla.
