FMU trailed 25-17 at the end of the first quarter before outscoring Ave Maria 25-11 in the second quarter. After a low scoring affair in the third (11-8 in favor of the Gyrenes), the Lions exploded to the tune of 24 fourth-quarter points, prevailing in a tight contest thanks to stellar defense in the final possessions.

With less than one minute remaining, and with the Lions nursing a two-point lead, senior Makayla Transou produced back to back steals and assists as she fed 2024-25 SUN Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Year Kamesha Moore with two easy baskets to seal the contest.

Moore led all scorers with a game-high 25 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field, including 3-of-4 from behind the arc. She also produced eight steals and dished out four assists while grabbing four boards. Teammate Ebony Black-Smith added nine points, three rebounds, two steals and two enormous blocks down a crucial stretch late in the fourth quarter.

First-team All-SUN honoree Agar Farres Garcia generated eight points, eight rebounds, four steals, two blocks and two assists in the victory for FMU, who improves to 22-4 overall.
