JACKSONVILLE, Fla. | Florida Memorial University dropped its second game of the season, and game one in its series against NCAA II and fellow HBCU, Edward Waters. The Lions were up 2-1 going into the bottom of the sixth, before allowing eight runs in the bottom of the inning, and three in the bottom of the seventh to end the game with the mercy rule 12-2.
Freshman
Wade Francis pitched the first 5.1 innings, allowing four hits, two earned runs, and two runs, while striking out nine Tigers. Junior
Jesus Portillo finished the game on the mound, allowing 10 earned runs, nine hits, and four walks.
The loss drops FMU to 0-2 on the year.
The Lions return to action Saturday, February 7, for the final two games of the Edward Waters series. First serve is slated for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. in Jacksonville.
