BRUNSWICK, Ga.| The Lions team returned to the field for a doubleheader matchup with Coastal Georgia, continuing to battle and gain momentum as the season progresses (game 1: 14-1, game 2: 13-0).
In the opening game, the Lions found success offensively behind shortstop
Mariana Gongora, who delivered a key double and crossed the plate for FMU's run. The Lions totaled four hits in the contest, with
Ariyuana DuPont,
Kamille Lucas, and
Leny Hoyos each contributing at the plate. Lucas also reached base twice, adding a walk to her hit to help spark opportunities for the offense. Hoyos handled pitching duties in game one, working through four innings in the circle while recording four strikeouts.
FMU continued its fight in the second game of the day. DuPont led the way offensively with a hit and an aggressive presence on the bases, adding a stolen base. Lucas also picked up a hit as the Lions looked to create scoring chances against Coastal Georgia's pitching rotation.
In the circle,
Alyssa Estrada pitched four innings and tallied four strikeouts while continuing to attack the strike zone. Throughout the doubleheader, the Lions showed determination and persistence, continuing to compete inning by inning. With several players contributing offensively and in the circle, The Lions gained valuable experience that will help the team continue developing as the season
moves forward.
The Lions return to action Saturday, March , against Coastal Georgia once again. First pitch is slated for 11 a.m. at the CCGA Softball Field.
