Carl A. Cunningham joined the FMU family as the Assistant Defensive Line Coach for Florida Memorial University in January of 2020. Cunningham, a Florida Memorial University alumnus with a Master's degree in education, will also serve as the football team's academic advisor.
Cunningham played defensive tackle at the University of Florida in the mid-80's and spent time as an assistant coach at various high schools in Miami-Dade County, including working with Lions head football coach Timothy Harris at Booker T. Washington in 2007.
Two of Cunningham's players, Antwon Davis and Christian Mable, earned Sun Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors. In addition, Mable finished first in the conference and second among HBCU's in sacks in 2022.
