Fernando Rojas enters his first season with the FMU Men's Basketball program as an assistant coach.
Rojas comes from a basketball family. His dad played in the 1948 Summer Olympics in London and the 1952 Summer Olympics Helsinki as a member of the Mexican National basketball team.
Rojas played college basketball at UNAM, the largest university in Latin America and was a member of the National team in tournaments in Brazil and Venezuela. He was named Rookie of the Year in 1979 by the prestigious sporting magazine ESTO IN Mexico City.
As a professional, he played for Santos de San Luis, Abejas de Pemex y Ola verde.
Rojas' coaching career began in 2004 in Tampa at the high school level as an Assistant Coach at Berkeley Prep and then for the Freedom Patriots in Tampa. In the summer of 2007, Rojas won the Tampa Bay Pro-Am with the Tampa Bay Sharks who competed against NBA players. In 2012 he won the Florida Basketball Association Championship coaching the Tampa Bay Rebels on the semi-professional basketball circuit.
Since 2007, Rojas has been coaching professional international clubs such as Ostioneros de Guaymas, Halcones de Obregon, Santos de San Luis in the CIBACOPA and LNBP leagues.
Fernando Rojas is married to Karen Byrnes and they live in Tampa, Florida. They have two sons, Miguel and Alek.
