Jacob Shaw

Coach Jacob Shaw enters his first season with the FMU Lions as an assistant men's basketball coach.

Shaw was named an assistant coach to Ansar Al-Ammen’s coaching staff in August 2021.
 
Prior to joining FMU, Shaw served as the head boys’ basketball coach at Miami Beach Senior High School for nine seasons (2013-2021). During his tenure, Shaw’s teams reached two regional finals and two district championship games. Also, Shaw had 26 players go on to play at the collegiate level – including two NCAA Division-I players, one of which being ranked as one of the top five players in the country.
 
Shaw also founded and oversaw day-to-day operation of www.MiamiDadeBB.com – an online basketball publication that covered preps level basketball not only in Miami-Dade County but throughout the state of Florida.
 
Prior to coaching Miami Beach’s boys’ basketball team, Shaw also coached the girls’ basketball team for four seasons (2008-2012), where his teams earned three regional finals berths and won three district championships. While coaching the girls’ team, two of Shaw’s players went on to play at the Division-I level while 13 of his players went on to play at other collegiate levels.
 
As a member of Miami Beach’s faculty, Shaw worked in Exceptional Student Education (ESE), specializing in special needs students.
 
A native of Detroit, Michigan, Shaw attended Bismark State College (N.D.) – where he regarded as one of the top junior college basketball players in the country. He then moved on to Sioux Falls College (S.D.), where he bachelor’s degree in Wellness.
 
Shaw currently lives in Miami, Florida while his parents (Everin and Taryn Crook) and siblings (Larrance, Tabitha, Tynikki, and Whitney) still live in Michigan.
