Kevin Herod

Kevin Herod has spent the past year at Florida Memorial University doing what he’s done everywhere he’s coached—raising the bar. He came to South Florida with a reputation for flipping programs, building culture, and developing players who compete at a championship level. From day one, he’s brought that same edge, discipline, and expectation of excellence to FMU.

Before joining FMU, Herod became the all-time winningest coach in Talladega College history, a distinction earned through years of consistency, culture-building, and postseason success. Across 12 seasons as a head coach, he’s stacked a 245–105 (.705) career record, 5 conference championships, 2 tournament titles, and 6 national postseason appearances. His teams don’t just win—they shift the standard. They compete harder, prepare smarter, and carry themselves like they belong on the biggest stages.

A Leader Beyond the Sideline

Herod didn’t just coach at Talladega—he also served as the Director of Athletics, where he oversaw one of the most successful eras in the school’s modern history. Under his leadership:

• Multiple programs won conference championships
• Teams qualified for national tournaments across several sports
• Academic performance climbed, with improved GPAs and graduation outcomes
• The athletic department saw major facility upgrades, including the development of a new on-campus arena that elevated the student-athlete experience and strengthened the school’s athletic footprint

Herod’s impact wasn’t limited to one team—he raised the standard for an entire department.

A Recruiter Who Knows How to Build

Herod has always been known for spotting talent early, connecting with families, and building rosters that fit his culture. His recruiting résumé includes:

• 8 players who moved from NAIA to Division I or II
• 11 Division I/II athletes recruited into NAIA programs
• 7 players who turned pro

He’s developed 34 All-Conference players, 15 All-Americans, and multiple conference award winners. His programs graduate at a 96% rate, and 18 former players have stepped into coaching or leadership roles. At FMU, he continues to bring in players who want to compete, grow, and walk away with a degree that matters.

Leadership That Changes Programs

Herod’s teams are built on culture—discipline, communication, accountability, and a competitive edge that doesn’t fade. Every player who finishes under him completes leadership workshops, community engagement work, and individualized development plans that sharpen their game and their mindset.

He’s rebuilt programs, launched youth clinics, created leadership retreats, and consistently raised expectations everywhere he’s coached. At FMU, he’s continued to strengthen the program’s identity, toughness, and connection to the community.
