Alvaro Torres joined the FMU family as assistant men's and women's soccer coach in Summer 2024.
Previously, Torres was the men's soccer assistant coach for Jarvis Christian University from August 2023 to summer 2024. He played a pivitol role in the team's 10-5-3 record and reaching the Red River Athletic Conference semifinals. From August 2021 to December 2022, Torres was a graduate assistant at Louisiana State University – Shreveport's men's soccer team. The team reached the Red River Athletic Conference Semifinals in 2021 and won the championship the following year, making a nationals appearance and Torres being named 2022 NAIA West Region Staff of the Year by United Soccer Coaches.
In 2020, Torres became the varsity assistant coach and JV head coach for C.E. BYRD High School. Just a year prior, he was the assistant head coach for Shreveport United U9 for one year and the head coach for Shreveport United U10. For over 10 years, Torres played academy soccer in Colombia for both Estrellas del Norte FC and Carlos Sarmiento Lora Soccer Academy. He earned multiple accolades, including first-team All-South Coast Conference with the East Los Angeles College men's soccer team.
In 2018, Torres played PDL (USL 2) for LA Laguna FC. In 2019, he played for Orange Country SC U-23 in California. He was an honorable mention with LSUS men's soccer in the Red River Athletic Conference.
Torres attended East Los Angeles College from 2015-2017, going for his Bachelor of Science in Marketing. He transferred to Louisiana State University in Shreveport in 2019, where he finished his degree, earning student scholar-athlete in the process. In 2023 Torres earned his Masters of Science in Computer Systems Technology in concentration on Business Administration at Louisiana State University - Shreveport.
