Florida Memorial Lady Lions were able to hold off Ave Maria University with the help of
Abreona Cabell; who led the Lady Lions with 29 points on 11-of-19 shooting from the field. Ave Maria trailed by 10 points before eventually falling 81-79, on Thursday evening at FMU Wellness Center in front of a packed crowd, The Lady Lions stands at 4-3 in conference play.
Florida Memorial Lady Lions opened the game with an 8-0 run, but Ave Maria responded with a 13-8 run to cut the lead to 16-13. The teams went back-and-forth for the rest of the half with Florida Memorial heading to the break with a 43-34 advantage.
Coming out of the break, Florida Memorial opened the second half on a run and was able to extend its lead to 12, 54-42. Ave Maria came back with a 10-0 run to tie the game up at 77 all with 0:54 to play. Florida Memorial made enough free throws down the stretch to hold off Ave Maria 81-79.
Abreona Cabell led the Lady Lions with 29 points, 11-19 FG shooting (5-6 free throw shooting) and grabbed 13 rebounds. Danielle Bailey poured in 11 points and grabbed 3 rebounds, while Ashley Henry contributed 10 points each.
Florida Memorial Lady Lions will return to the hardwood on Saturday, January 21 as they battle Johnson and Wales University at 2:00pm in TSC action.
