Florida Memorial Lady Lions were able to hold off Johnson & Wales University with the help of
Abreona Cabell; who led the Lady Lions with 20 points on 7-of-19 shooting from the field. Johnson & Wales trailed by 24 points before eventually falling 63-56, on Thursday evening at Wildcat Center in front of a packed crowd, The Lady Lions stands at 2-2 in conference play.
Florida Memorial Lady Lions opened the game with a 19-1 run, Florida Memorial spread the ball around in the first quarter and played good defense to close out the first quarter of play, up 24-3. After battling back and forth through the second quarter, the Lady Lions headed into the break with a 36-12 lead.
Coming out of the break, Johnson & Wales responded with a 15-4 run to cut the lead to 42-27. Florida Memorial was able to extend its lead to 14, 45-31.But Johnson & Wales came back with a 11-3 run to close out the third quarter of play. Florida Memorial made enough free throws down the stretch to hold off Johnson & Wales 63-56.
Abreona Cabell led the Lady Lions with 29 points, 7-19 FG shooting (5-8 free throw shooting) and grabbed 16 rebounds. Ashley Henry poured in 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, while Danielle Bailey & Jerri Richard contributed
7 points each.
Florida Memorial Lady Lions will return to the hardwood on Saturday, December 9, 2017 as they battle Keiser University at 2:00pm in TSC action at the FMU Wellness Center.
