Florida Memorial Men's basketball team (6-3, 3-2 TSC) defeated Keiser University (6-3, 4-2 TSC) 84-81 in overtime Saturday afternoon in Sun Conference (TSC) action at the FMU Wellness Center. Keiser came out and built an early 5-point lead in the first half on a 10-5 run to start the game, but the Lions outscored Keiser 13-10 following that run and trailed 31-39 at halftime.
In the second half, Florida Memorial and Keiser exchanged baskets for the first four minutes of the game. Then Florida Memorial made an 8-0 run to cut Keiser's lead to 54-49. But Keiser scored six unanswered points to take a 69-63 lead with less than a minute to play. However, Florida Memorial hit back-to-back threes to tie the game up 69-69 with 13 second remaining in regulation. Keiser answered with two free throws to take a 71-69 lead. Florida Memorial's
Omar Outar hit a jumper to tie the game up 71-71 and send the game into overtime.
Keiser and Florida Memorial went back-and-forth in overtime. Florida Memorial was able to build a 6-point lead 79-73. The Lions defense stepped up and was able to make stops against Keiser and pull away for the win 84-81.
Florida Memorial finished the night shooting 44.6 (29-of-65) percent from the floor, which included shooting 40 (16-of-40) percent from the three point arch. The Lions also finished the night 53.3 (8-of-15) percent from the free-throw line, while forcing 16 turnovers.
Davon Williams finished with a team-high 19 points, while also grabbing 11 rebounds in the win.
Omar Outar finished with 15 points and
Evens Jacques had 13 points and 4 rebounds.
Eugene Harvey added 11 points, while grabbing 4 rebounds, and
Kase Carrera finished with 11 points and 3 rebounds.
The Lions return to the court Tuesday night (Dec. 19
th) when they host West Virginia University Institute of Technology for a 5:00 p.m. tip off.
