Florida Memorial women's basketball faced its first road test of the New Year against Warner University on Thursday at the Turner Athletic Center on the campus of Warner University in Lake Wales, Florida for 57-40 win. The Lady Lions move to 9-5 overall on the season and 4-2 in the Sun Conference.
Florida Memorial was able to gain an early lead in the first quarter and never looked back, as they led by as many as 12. Florida Memorial opened the second quarter on a 10-6 run and FMU carry a 35-16 lead into the halftime.
Coming out of the break, Florida Memorial opened the third quarter on a run, and with 06:39 left in the quarter, the Lions were leading by 22 points (40-18). Florida Memorial opened the fourth-quarter on another run, and they were able to seal a 57-40 victory.
The Lady Lions held Warner to only 26 % percent from the field (15-for-56) after Warner struggled from beyond the arc, going 5-for-25 (20 % ) from downtown.
Ashley Henry led the Lady Lions with 15 points and 5 rebounds, while
Danielle Bailey finished with 12 points and 7 boards.
Victoria Jones added 9 points, 6 rebounds and a steal.
Mya Jackson poured in 3 points and 3 rebounds , while ,
Abreona Cabell chipped in 7 points and 18 rebounds .
The Lions will return to action on Saturday, January 6, 2018, when they host Webber International University with tipoff at 2 p.m.
