Lions Drop The Ball Against Ave Maria
The Florida Memorial Lions (0-12-1,0-8-1 TSC) dropped the ball against conference opponent, Ave Maria University (4-9,2-6 TSC)
FMU was celebrating their seniors during the last home game for the Lions women's soccer team.
The Lions started off fierce as they scored two goals within the first four minutes of the match. The first score came during the first minute of the match from
Lovely Placide who was assisted by Jasmine Rosas. During the fourth minute
Thalia Leal would find the back of the net as she stole the ball from her opponent and took the shot. The left footed shot from twenty five feet away, got in through the upper right corner, just passed the outstretched hands of the goal keeper.
Although the Lions were up 2-0 early in the contest, Gyrenes would not back down that easily. During the thirty-fifth minute, Meghan Precord scored a goal that was assisted by Lauren Campoe. The first half would end with the score 2-1 in favor of the Lions as Ave Maria had 11 shots and the Lions had 9.
During the fifty-fourth minute, Lauren Campoe found the back of the net for the second time in the match. This would tie the score at 2-2. The Gyrenes would strike quickly as Laura Spence penetrated the goal, during the fifty-sixth minute, to put Ave Maria up for good.
The Lions played aggressively throughout the contest both on offense and on defense. Marianna Rincon had an excellent defensive play during the first half and goal keeper,
Adriana Rosero made several outstanding plays to keep the Lions competitive throughout the match.
The Lions will play next at St. Thomas University on October 24
th at 7:00 PM
