The Florida Memorial University Lions men's basketball team (1-4, 0-1 TSC) took on the Bobcats of St. Thomas University (1-3, 1-0) on Saturday afternoon at the FMU Wellness Center.
The first half started out well for the Bobcats of St. Thomas University as they jumped all over the Lions and built an early 11-5 lead. The Lions would roar back to capture the led 14-13 behind a jumper from
Eugene Harvey. The Bobcats and Lions would battle and fight for points and turnovers during the first half. St. Thomas would build a 33-22 point lead with just over seven minutes to play, that's when
Jordan Collins would hit a 3 pointer to get the Lions going. Florida Memorial use the momentum of that 3 pointer to keep the score close. Then with just seconds left in the first half
Jordan Collins hit another 3 pointer to tie the score at 42-42.
In the second half with the score tied 42-42 the Bobcats and the Lions would continue to do battle as the score was close. With the score 61-60 in favor of FMU, STU's Justin Brown would steal a pass and take it to the other side of the court for a dunk, this put STU in the lead for good. Towards the end of the second half the Lions simply ran out of fight as turnovers, missed shots, and missed layups would keep them from the victory.
Leading the way for the Lions was
Jordan Collins with 23 points,
Nehemiah Darrett with 18 points, and
Jordan Martin with 17 points and 5 rebounds.
The Lions will be on the road on Wednesday, Nov. 21st at 7:00 p.m. at Jacksonville University.
