The Florida Memorial University Lions basketball team (1-7, 0-2 TSC) took on the Thomas University Night Hawks (5-2, 3-0 TSC) on Thursday night at the FMU Wellness Center.
Three Florida Memorial University student-athletes scored in double figures tonight but that was not enough to get the Lions past the Night Hawks as the Lions were defeated 73-79.
Jordan Collins played 32 minutes and scored 11 points, shooting 36% from the field and 42% from behind the 3 point line. It was Collins' back to back 3 pointers that gave the Lions some momentum in the first half and thus allowed them to take a 6 point lead into halftime. The score after the first half of play was 42-36 in favor of the Lions.
Jordan Martin played 28 minutes and scored 14 points, shooting 30% from the field and 30% from behind the 3 point line. Martin's aggressive play on defense with 3 steals at key moments kept the Lions in this game.
Omar Outar led the Lions with 17 points, shooting 41% from the field and 30% from behind the 3 point line. Omar only had 2 points in the first half of play. During the second half, the Night Hawks jumped out on the Lions 53-46 and that is when Omar hit a key 3 pointer to keep the Lions within striking distance. The second half was a different story for Omar, his aggressive play allowed him to score 12 points and help the Lions stay close.
In the second half the Lions were out-played down the stretch. The turnovers and not defending key shooters doomed the Lions in this contest.
Catch the Lions on Saturday, Dec. 1st, at 4:00 p.m., as they take on Coastal College of Georgia at the FMU Wellness Center.
