Lady Lions Throttle the Night Hawks

The Florida Memorial University Lady Lions basketball team (6-4, 2-0 TSC) took on the Thomas University Night Hawks (3-7, 1-2 TSC) on Thursday night at the FMU Wellness Center.

The Lady Lions had a goal to start this game. Their goal all week, in practice, was to improve their shooting as they were committed to not allow a poor shooting performance in the previous game, to define them. In this game the Lady Lions proved that practice makes progress. They came out firing on all cylinders in the first quarter. They scored 31 points compared to the Night Hawks 12. In the second quarter, the Lady Lions continued to show an overpowering offense as the Night Hawks could not keep up. The Lady Lions scored 53 points in the first half of play on 50% shooting from the field, 62% from behind the 3 point arc, and had 3 players in double figures in scoring, Kenesha Battle had 13, Bri Battle had 12, and Danielle Bailey had 11.

With the score 53-22 in favor of the Lady Lions at halftime, the Night Hawks were eager to make adjustments. The Night Hawks came out of the half pressing the Lady Lions. This caused some turnovers that led to some more scoring for the Night Hawks as they scored 22 points but the Lady Lions were still firing 3 pointers and they scored 23 points and maintained a 32 point lead at the end of the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter the Lady Lions seemed to let their guard down a bit allowing the Night Hawks to score 23 points. With that pressing defense the Lady Lions were only able to score 14 points in the fourth quarter. However, the FMU Lady Lions were so far ahead in this game that the difference in scoring in the fourth quarter didn't matter as the Lady Lions closed out the Night Hawks 90-67 and captured their second conference victory of this young season.

The Lady Lions were by Kenesha Battle with 26 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists.

Catch the Lady Lions as they take on Coastal College of Georgia on Saturday, Dec. 1st, at 2:00 p.m., at the Wellness Center.
