Lady Lions ROAR In Conference Match Up

The Florida Memorial University Lady Lions tied a national record in this game with 22 3-pointers made in a single game. The record pertains to this current 2018-2019 season as two other universities have accomplished the same feat. The national NAIA all-time 3-pointers made in a single game was 27 in 2011 by Olivet Nazarene University in Illinois and the Lady Lions are shooting for it.

The College of Coastal Georgia (6-5, 2-2 TSC) arrived at the FMU Wellness Center for a 2:00 p.m. ready for a conference battle with the Florida Memorial Lady Lions (7-4, 3-0 TSC).

This game started out slow as both teams looked as if they were getting a feel for each other. The Mariners of Coastal Georgia had a sizable height advantage over the Lady Lions. However, the Lady Lions got things going when Bri Battle hit back-to-back 3 pointers to give the Lady Lions a 9-6 lead. With the score tied at 12-12, Tyesha Battle hit a 3-pointer to give the Lady Lions a 15-12 lead. The Lady Lions led for the rest of the game, as the first quarter finished 27-20.

In the second quarter the Lady Lions would continue to run and gun on offense and put up 30 more points and build a 57-44 lead that they would take into the half. At the half, the Lady Lions had the trio of Battle sisters in double figures scoring a combined 46 points. The Lady Lions were perfect from the charity stripe as they shot 5-5. As a team they had 14 assists and 25 rebounds.

In the second half the Lady Lions continued to show their offensive prowess as they scored 22 points in the third quarter and 23 points in the fourth. However, their halftime adjustments were more focused on defense as they limited the Mariners to 32 points in the third and fourth quarter combined. Midway through the 4th quarter the FMU student body in attendance were ROARING "We want 100" referring to wanting the Lady Lions to score 100 points in this contest. The Lady Lions did just that, with less than 30 seconds to play the Lady Lions secured a defensive rebound which led to a fast break. As Nashley Zayas drove to the basket, she passed the ball to Shawnice King who scored the 22nd 3-pointer of the night and the 102nd point of the game. The FMU student body in attendance erupted with cheers and ROARS!

The Lady Lions were led by Kanesha Battle with 29 points, Bri Battle with 27 points and Anjelie Tirone had an outstanding defensive game securing 8 rebounds.

Catch the Lady Lions on Thursday, December 6th, at 6:00 p.m. as they take on Johnson and Wales University at the FMU Wellness Center.
