The Lions of Florida Memorial University (3-12, 0-5 TSC) traveled across town to take on the Panthers of Florida International University (9-3) on Thursday night.
In the first half the Panthers jumped all over the Lions using a 10 point run to build a 15-2 lead midway through the first half. The Lions came out and showed that they could match up their speed and their athleticism with the NCAA Div. 1, FIU Panthers.
However, the Lions were unable to execute against the Panthers full court press, shooting 22% from the field, 17% from three point range, and 40% from the free throw line in the first half. The score at the end of the first half was 23-46.
In the second half the Lions came out much stronger as they were determined to play more aggressively but they were only able to get within 21 points. In the second half the Lions shot much more effectively shooting 50% from the field, 50% from three point range, and 100% from the free throw line. The score at the end of the game was 67-108.
Although the Lions came out strong in the second half, the difference in this game was the execution of the Panthers on offense. They executed pass after pass until they found a slashing player to the basket or an open shooter behind the three point arc and scored in bunches.
The Lions were led by
Omar Outar with 16 points and
Eugene Harvey with 12 points and 9 rebounds.
Catch the Lions on Saturday, Dec. 29th at 3:00 p.m. at the FMU Wellness Center as they take on Cornerstone University.
