The Florida Memorial University Lions (3-12, 0-5 TSC) were blown out by the Cornerstone University Golden Eagles, 55-107.
The Golden Eagles arrived at the FMU Wellness Center with a 13-4 record and ranked 10th in the NAIA. When the game started they showed exactly why they are worthy of their ranking. The Golden Eagles possessed the opening tip off and quickly scored the first 2 points of the game and led wire to wire. The score at halftime was 23-56 in favor of the Golden Eagles. The Golden Eagles defense was too much for the Lions as they shot just 29% from the field and 19% from three point range. The Golden Eagles owned the glass as they had 29 rebounds compared to the Lions 10.
The second half was much like the first half. The Golden Eagles scored three pointers and fast-break layups at will. They shot 62% from the field and 80% from three point range. The Lions could not match up with their size and speed as they were out-rebounded 21-47 and shot just 35% from the field in this contest. Leading the way for Cornerstone University were Tyler Baker with 27 points and Sam Vander Sluis with 21 rebounds.
Leading the way for the Lions were
Eugene Harvey who scored 17 points and
William Phelps who scored 12 points and had 5 rebounds.
