FMU Lions Wins Series Over Ave Maria


The Florida Memorial University Lions picked up their eleventh conference win of the season, to put them in third place in the conference standings. The only Sun Conference teams with better records are the Southeastern University Fire and the St. Thomas University Bobcats. The Lions defeated Ave Maria University twice this weekend, to earn the conference series win. 

In the first game of the three game series, FMU came out victorious winning by a score of 15-5. Edgar Aparacio picked up his fourth win of the season, to improve his record to 4-0 on the year. Aparacio threw six innings for the Lions, giving up three runs, while striking out five. The Lions' offense put on a clinic against AMU, as they put up 15 runs against their opponents. Sergio Chil remains to be the Lions most consistent player as he went 4-5 on the day, with four RBIs and a home run. Axel Gomez also had a great day at the plate for FMU, as he went 2-3 with two RBIs.

The Lions dropped the second game of the series against the Gyrenes, tying the series at one game a piece. Carlos Alcon started on the mound for FMU. Alcon threw six innings, giving up five runs, while striking out six. Alcon's solid performance wasn't enough for the Lions, as they were only able to plate two runs in  the game.

In the final game of the series, the Lions were firing on all cylinders, as they won the game 9-5. Christian Rivera started on the bump, and earned the victory for the Lions. Rivera went seven innings, giving up two runs, while striking out six on the day. Daniel Obando threw the final two innings for FMU, only giving up one run. On the offensive side, the Lions put up sixteen hits! Pablo Delgado led the team in hits in the game, as he went 4-6.

The Lions are looking to earn two more victories on Monday, March 26th, as they host College of St. Joseph for a double header at Harry T. Moore Baseball Field. The first game is set to begin at 12 pm.   












After today, Florida Memorial  moves to 19-10 overall and 11-4 in TSC play. They will be back in action on Monday when they host The College of St. Joseph . First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Harry T. Moore Baseball Field.
