Lions Lose Conference Road Game

Just two days after scoring 101 points against Coastal College of Georgia, the Lions scored only 50 points and were defeated on the road at Thomas University on Saturday afternoon.

The Florida Memorial University Lions (4-20, 2-10 TSC) lost the conference match up to Thomas University (11-10, 7-6 TSC) on Saturday afternoon in Thomasville, GA.

The Night Hawks led wire to wire in this contest. They opened up a 16-7 point lead on the Lions early in the first half and never looked back. The score at the half was 22-40 in favor of Thomas University. Adjustments were made at the half but that did not make an impact on this game as the Lions were defeated 50-76. The Lions shot 19-49 (38%) from the field and 8-21 (38%) from 3-point range in this game. The Night Hawks had a slight advantage in rebounds out-rebounding the Lions 31-35 but had a big advantage in turnovers causing the Lions to turn the ball over 16 times while only committing 7 turnovers. The 16 turnovers resulted in 19 points for the Night Hawks.

The story in this game was the play of the bench players. The Night Hawks used a rotation of 16 players in the game while the Lions entire roster consists of only 10 players. With that many players substituting in and out of the game, the Night Hawks were able to keep fresh and rested players on the court and used a swarming defense to keep the Lions to only 50 points. The Night Hawks bench outscored the Lions bench, 49-17.

Leading the way for the Lions was Eugene Harvey with 15 points and Omar Outar with 12 points.

Catch the Lions at home on Thursday, Jan. 3st, at 8:00 p.m. at the FMU Wellness Center as they take on Keiser University.
