Lady Lions Capture 6th Conference Victory

The Warner University Lady Royals (6-11, 0-6 TSC) arrived at Florida Memorial University on Saturday afternoon looking for their first conference victory of the season. The Lady Royals came out firing on all cylinders in the first half and jumped all over the Lady Lions of Florida Memorial University (11-4, 6-0 TSC). The Lady Royals scored 12 points in the first quarter and 22 points in the second quarter as they built a 13 point lead into halftime. The Lady Royals shot 46% from the field and 41% 3-point range. The Lady Lions only scored 21 points while shooting 20% from the field and 12% from 3-point range in the first half.

During halftime, the FMU Lady Lions made some adjustments and were a completely different team in the second half. Bri Battle could be heard saying "just keep playing" as she encouraged her team to keep fighting. In the third quarter, the Lady Lions used a full court pressure defense that caused problems for Warner. The Lady Lions pressure defense held Warner to only 17 points on 35% shooting from the field and 33% from 3-point range. The Lady Lions used that pressure defense and scored 30 points in the third quarter and tied the score at 51-51. In the fourth quarter, Warner could not penetrate the Lady Lions defense as the they kept the pressure on defense and exploded for 31 more points to secure the victory. The final score was 82-71 as the Lady Lions improved to 6-0 in The Sun Conference.

Leading the way for the Lady Lions was Bri Battle with 26 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 steals. Danielle Bailey contributed with 13 points. Brittany Howard battled injuries all week long and was barely able to practice but somehow managed to play a strong defensive game for the Lady Lions.

The Lady Lions will travel to Webber International University on Saturday, Jan. 5th, at 2:00.
