Volleyball Suffers Loss To Southeastern On The Road

(LAKELAND, FLA) -- Florida Memorial University's volleyball team's rematch to Southeastern didn't go in their favor as the Lions lost 2-3, Saturday, October 12.

The Lions lost twice to the Fire within three days and dropped to 6-3 in the conference while the Fire move up to 6-3. 

FMU took a 1-0 lead defeating SEU 25-15 in the first set. 

In the second set back to back scores made it impossible to see the outcome as the score went beyond 25 with the Fire winning  26-24.

Another Lions' win came in the third set when FMU finished 25-18. Hoping to put the game to rest in the fourth set, the Lions were upset when multiple attacking errors help the Fire force a fifth set winning 25-19. 

In the final set of the match the Lions produced eight errors helping their opponent to a 16-14 final score. 

FMU outhit SEU 66-51 and finished with a .206 hitting percentage compared to the Fire's .168. 

The Lions finished with seven more attacking errors than their opponents and nine more service errors. 

Junior Sammyra Albarran led the team with 18 kills and collected eight digs. Four different Lions finished with double-digits kills including Albarran, seniors Yulianna Charris (11) and Ivana Maric (10) and freshman Biancaliz Cruz (15). 

Junior Francheska Rivera finished with 30 assists while classmate Keisha Santana collected 27 digs. 

FMU's next match will be right here in Miami Gardens at St. Thomas University, Wednesday, October 16 with a 7:00 P.M. start.
