Volleyball Win Over Ave Maria Breaks School Record

(MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.) -- Florida Memorial University's 3-1 conference win over Ave Maria set two new school records for the volleyball team, Saturday, October 19.

The Lions broke the school record in total wins in a season (14) and conference wins in a season (7).

"We are growing and once we hit number one we didn't stop there," said head coach Marrita Crockett-Moulton. "We wanted to keep improving our game and even though we hit a little bit of a slump, that's how we learn and how we get better and now you're going to see a completely different team in the second half [of the season]. We're really excited to be breaking records and putting this school on the map, we're a powerhouse and we've proved that."

In set one FMU got on the board first after a kill from sophomore Dayla Hall. The Gyrenes would answer back with a kill of their own before the Lions went on a 5-1 run to take a four point lead.

The Lions took a 3-0 lead to start the second set after back-to-back kills from junior Sammyra Albarran and a block by Albarran and Hall.

Ave Maria made a couple of key plays to tie the game halfway through the set and fought back from a 23-20 FMU lead to steal the win 27-25.

Bouncing back, Florida Memorial dominated the third set going on multiple runs to finish with a 25-10 advantage.

The Lions outscored the Gyrenes 17-7 and finished with a .516 hitting percentage. The fourth and final set went in favor of Florida Memorial and ended 25-19.
