(MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.) -- The Florida Memorial University volleyball team defeated Johnson & Wales University 3-0, Wednesday, October 23.
The Lions advance to 15-8 overall and 8-4 in the conference after beating the Wildcats.
In the first set FMU produced twice as many kills as JWU (16) finishing with a .314 hitting percentage.
The Wildcats managed to stay in close range for the first half of the match before the Lions pulled away winning 25-17.
Florida Memorial claimed another win in the second set, this time finishing 25-13 over Johnson & Wales. They started the match on a 5-1 run and never let their lead drop below four.
In the final set the game went through five different lead changes before the score reached eight. FMU took control after their eighth point and kept the lead throughout the remainder of the game finishing it off 25-16.
FMU currently sits in fourth place in the conference just one win behind the top three teams after this match.
Leading the way for the Lions was junior
Sammyra Albarran who was the only FMU player to finish in double-digits in kills (11). Classmate
Daphinie Correa wasn't far behind with eight of her own. She also added five digs and two service aces.
Junior
Alanis Santana had a team-high 14 assists while
Francheska Rivera added 12. Senior
Yulianna Charris finished with a game-high 19 digs while Rivera contributed 10.
The Lions travel to Webber International, Saturday, October 26 for a 2PM game.
