(MIAMI GARDENS, FLA) -- Tough calls resulted in a 1-3 loss to Southeastern University for the Florida Memorial University volleyball team, Wednesday, October 9.
The Lions, now 6-2 in the conference lost to the first set to the Fire 22-25 even after outscoring their opponent 17-8 in kills.
FMU took a 7-1 lead early in the second set that helped them capture the 25-20 win tying the game 1-1.
Back to back scores in the third set made for an exciting match but in the end the Fire would take a 2-1 lead winning the set 25-20.
The Lions held a 21-13 lead in the fourth set which would have pushed for a fifth but multiple calls against the Lions put Southeastern back into the game.
What many considered the set winning kill from freshman
Adriana Soto was called out and gave the Fire the ammunition take the match.
Freshman
Biancaliz Cruz led the Lions with 16 kills while junior
Sammyra Albarran added 16. Soto also hit double-digits contributing 11 kills in the match.
Junior
Keisha Santana finished with 19 digs while senior
Yulianna Charris collected 12. Albarran finished with her first double-double of the season adding 10 digs.
Junior setters
Francheska Rivera and
Alanis Santana each finished with 23 assists.
FMU will get its rematch against the Fire, Saturday, October 12 on the road.
