MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Florida Memorial University women's basketball team lost their first game on the road in the Jimmy Faulkner Classic at the hands of Life University, 73-58, on Friday, November 1.
This team was a perfect match for FMU in terms of style of play.
The Running Eagles came out with high anticipation due to this matchup being their first official game of the season and led the contest the entire way.
Although the Lady Lions came out strong in the second half, the difference in this game was the turnover margin (25-31).
Leading the way for FMU were two seniors,
Isis Lane with 13 points and 14 rebounds and
Ashleign Gary with 12 points and five rebounds. Freshman
Ixsamar Gonzalez finished with six points and two rebounds. "A lot of what Ixsamar contributed to this game did not show up on the stat sheet, but her presence in the paint allowed us to be more consistent," Lions head coach Greg Stanback said.
The Lady Lions shot 31-percent (19-of-61) from the field, 21-percent (4-of-10) from the 3-point range, and 58-percent (11-of-19) from the free-throw line.
Tomorrow the Lady Lions will look to avenge this loss as they face Faulkner University in their house. Jump ball is at 4 p.m. ET.
