The Florida Memorial Lions (7-7, 4-5 TSC) lose the 3 game series to conference opponent, University of South Carolina Beaufort.
The Lions scored one run on three hits in the bottom of the first inning as the Lions were looking to take the 3-game series.
Yunior Sanchez hit a triple to center field and Francisco
Quinonez followed with a single to right field to score Sanchez and put the Lions up 1-0. In the top of the third inning, a two out single allowed the Sand Sharks to tie the score, 1-1. In the bottom of the 4th inning, the Lions scored 2 runs on 3 hits to take a 3-1 lead. However, the lead did not last long as things got ugly for the Lions defensively in the top of the sixth inning. The Lions gave up 4 walks, 1 balk, 2 pass balls, 1 wild pitch, 1 error, and 5 hits that resulted in 7 runs for the Sand Sharks.
The Sand Sharks would add 2 more runs in the top of the seventh inning and 1 more run in the top of the eighth inning. The Lions were able to score 3 runs in the bottom of the seventh inning but that was all that they could do as the Sand Sharks defeated the Lions by a score of 6-13.
Leading the way for the Lions in this game were
Darrin Brown, 3-5, with 1 RBI and
Axel Gomez, 2-4, with 3 RBI, and 1 run scored.
The Lions will be on the road Wednesday. Feb. 27, at 2:00 p.m. at Ave Maria University.
