The Florida Memorial University Lions (7-8, 4-5 TSC) traveled to play against Ave Maria University (8-12, 3-6 TSC) on Wednesday afternoon.
For a regular baseball fan, one who wants to watch a lot of action at a baseball game, this game would have been considered boring. For a baseball purest, this game would have been called a gem, but for Lions fans, this one was a heartbreaker. The Gyrenes of Ave Maria used five pitchers to dominate the Lions offense. FMU earned six hits in this game, left seven runners on base, and scored zero runs, in ten innings of play. This game was tied 0-0 after the final frame of the ninth inning.
In the top half of the tenth inning, the Lions again could not push a runner across home plate. In the bottom half of the tenth, the Lions walked the first batter, he advanced to second on a wild pitch. Then a sacrifice bunt moved the Gyrenes runner to third base, the following batter hit a fly ball deep to center field and the runner tagged up and scored, leaving the Lions on the field as the Gyrenes captured the victory in walk off fashion, 0-1.
Leading the way for the Lions in this game were
Edison Cabrera going 2-3 and
Pablo Delgado , 2-4.
Catch the Lions at home on Saturday, March 2nd, as they take on Chestnut Hill University for a double-header, 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
