The Lady Lions regained their winning ways, defeating Webber International University (8-15, 3-12 TSC).
The Florida Memorial University Lady Lions basketball team (15-11, 8-7 TSC) ended a four-game losing streak by defeating conference opponent, the Warriors of Webber, 86-78.
In the first quarter, the Lady Lions came out determined to end the struggles of recent weeks. The Lady Lions scored 24 points but the Warriors kept things close by scoring 22 points.
Kanesha Battle scored 9 points and
Anjelie Tirone scored 4. In the second quarter,
Anjelie Tirone continued her excellent performance by scoring 6 more points along with 4 rebounds to give the Lady Lions an 8-point lead. The score at the half was 46-38 in favor of the Lady Lions.
In the second half the Lady Lions would build a 15-point lead at the end of the 3
rd quarter, 70-55. For the Warriors, Taniya Patrick proved to be a force to reckon with as she had 6 blocked shots after 3 quarters of play. In the fourth quarter, the Warriors would score 25 points and get to within 4 points of the Lady Lions. However, The Lady Lions made sure to close out the Warriors and capture the victory. Leading the way for the Warriors was freshman Taniya Patrick with 27 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 blocked shots. The loss for the Warriors eliminates them from post season competition.
The Lady Lions are still without
Brianna Battle and her nearly 20 points per game as she continues to nurse her injured ankle. To compensate for her not being in the line-up the Lady Lions ended the game with five players in double digit scoring. Leading the way was
Kanesha Battle with 26 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 steals.
Anjelie Tirone played one her best games of the season scoring 16 points, grabbing 12 rebounds, and blocking 5 shots. Shanice King had 14 points and 6 rebounds.
The Lady Lions will be on the road Saturday, Feb. 9
th, at 2:00 p.m. at Warner University.
