Florida Memorial University Lions baseball (4-2) traveled to Thomasville, GA to take on Thomas University (0-4) on Friday night.
The Lions were looking to continue their hot hitting ways against the Night Hawks of Thomas University. With the score 0-0 and only 5 hits combined between both teams, the Lions came to bat in the top of the 5th inning.
Axel Gomez, the 3rd baseman, hit a leadoff double, followed by
Jacquel Perry's RBI single, then
Pablo Delgado's single, and
Edison Cabrera's 2 RBI double, the Lions would eventually get 6 hits and score 5 runs to make it a 5-0 score.
In the top of the 6th inning, the Lions would send
Axel Gomez to the plate and he would deliver another double and score a run to give the Lions a 6-2 lead. In the top of the 7th, with the score 6-2 in favor of the Lions, the Lions would send
Jouseph Renovales to the plate, Renovales drew a walk. A balk, a fielder's choice, a sacrifice fly, and a towering home run by the catcher
Jose Chavez, the Lions would score 3 runs on 1 hit. The score at the end of 7 innings was 9-2 in favor of the Lions.
In the bottom of the 9th inning, things would get a little dicey for the Lions as the Night Hawks refused to give up. The Night Hawks finally figured out the Lions dominate pitching and scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 9th but the Lions were able to get the last out, put away the Night Hawks, and capture the victory, 9-6.
Leading the way for the Lions were
Axel Gomez, 2-4 with 2 doubles, and 2 runs scored,
Pablo Delgado, 2-3 with 1 run scored, and
Jose Chavez, 1-3 with a home run and 4 RBI.
The Lions will play the 2nd game of the double header at Thomas University at 3:00 p.m.
