The Florida Memorial University Lions (16-10, 4-6 TSC) traveled to Webber International University (20-10, 3-4 TSC) on Friday night to start a 3-game series against the Warriors.
The Lions jumped out to a 2-0 lead by scoring a run in the first and fourth innings. The Lions held on to a one run lead when Warriors' shortstop, Carlo Mancillas blasted a solo shot over the left field wall to tie the score at 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Lions would give up 2 more runs in the sixth inning.
In the top of the seventh inning, the Lions would threaten, scoring one run to make it 3-4. With runners on second and third base, 2 outs, and DJ Brown at the plate, the Warriors were able to get Brown to strike out and the threat. The Warriors took game one of the series, 3-4.
Leading the way for the Lions were
Jouseph Renovales with 3 hits,
Angel Colon with 2 hits, and
Nathan Llanes with 2 RBI.
Christian Rivera suffered the loss pitching 7 2/3 innings, allowing 8 hits, 4 runs, 5 walks, and striking out 7.
The Lions will look to even things up as they play a double-header, Saturday against the Warriors.
