First Ever Summer Jam a Success at Florida Memorial University

(MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.) -- The first ever Miami Gardens Summer Jam charity basketball event was a huge success at Florida Memorial University, Saturday, August 10.

The event, hosted by Florida Memorial University athletics and RemyWorkouts, featured four different basketball games, a slam dunk contest and many musical selections including a halftime performance by Miami rapper Brianna Perry.

Guests were also able to witness other performances by another Miami rapper Grimass and be serenaded by the sounds of Jon Saxx and a few others. Special guests for the day included NBA Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas, ESPN analyst Jay Walker, Superbowl Champion Mike McKenzie and WNBA First-Rounder Tracy Reid.

Reid visited the locker rooms after the girls' high school AAU games with FMU head coach Gregory Stanback to talk to the players about their performances, what it takes to be a winner and their advice for them moving forward.

Pheonix Suns account executive Kgai Jones and FMU men's basketball head coach Ansar Al-Ameen also visited the lockers rooms after the boys' Dade vs. Broward game. Jones told the boys about his experiences working with the pros and encouraged them to play with heart while Al-Ameen gave pointers on staying consistent and even express his interest in having some of them become future Lions.

Proceeds from the days event went to the athletic scholarship fund in order to give young men and women the opportunity to play sports at the collegiate level.
