(MIAMI GARDENS, FLA) --Taking the field for the first time this season, the Florida Memorial men's soccer team will face off with Ave Maria, Saturday, August 24.
Florida Memorial is led by fourth-year head coach
Edil Pavon. He is assisted by
Horacio Ramos and
Alejandro Addeo.
"My dream is bigger than your excuse," said Pavon when asked about what he says to motivate his players. Last year the team struggled, finishing with a record of 1-10 overall. This year coach Pavon is looking to set a new standard.
He said, "It's a new day, new era, new dreams."
The team will be returning over 10 players and they are looking stronger than ever.
In the last matchup between the two teams, the Gyrenes outscored the Lions 5-1. FMU's lone goal was scored from a penalty kick in the 76th minute to cut into AMU's 4-0 lead.
The Lions had many options on the field having outshot the Gyrenes 21-12. Both teams took five corner kicks in the match and Ave Maria registered eight saves compared to Florida Memorial's four.
Ave Maria finished last season 7-10-1 and are led by fourth-year head coach Eddie Gaven and assisted by John Damasco.
